West Point Child Development

Designed by Fanning Howey, the Child Development Center at West Point was created to foster exploration, collaboration, and connection to the surrounding landscape. The LEED-focused project called for materials that supported sustainability while creating a comfortable learning environment for young children. The design team also needed a flooring solution that could help manage sound within the open learning studios.

Zandur Sustain™ cork rubber flooring was selected for its unique combination of acoustical performance, durability, and renewable cork content. Vibrant colors were used to create a playful pathway that guides children through the building while reinforcing the project's nature-inspired design theme. The resilient surface provides added comfort for teachers who spend hours on their feet and a softer landing for active young learners.

Lead Interior Designer Alissa Albers described the project as exceeding expectations, citing the flooring's performance, natural material composition, and color selection as key contributors to the finished design. The result is a school that is quieter, more comfortable, and designed to support learning through thoughtful material choices—demonstrating how cork rubber flooring can elevate educational spaces both functionally and aesthetically.
